Estate

A mix of history, faith and mystery is what exists at Barinas which means in the indigenous language “where the wind blows stronger”. Name given by owner Márcio Borges in honor of the Araxás indians, who lived in the region.
It has spread rumor that they come back at night to protect the plantation.
Surrounded by land of geological formation and mineral riches such as sulphurous waters, niobium and apatite. Lands where prehistoric mammals lived. This is where we find the history of our ancestors and our crops.

Our Coffees (The Catuíra Legend)

According to this legend the tribe of Araxás was decimated because of a traitor named Iboapi.

He fell in love with Catuíra (daughter of the chief Andaia), who, in turn, had given his daughter as a prize to Maú, chief of the warriors, after a victorious fight. Iboapi, on the day of the wedding, had fled with Pamplona and his soldiers, indicating to them the way to the village where they surprised the Indians at the height of the wedding feast.

Some warriors escaped, among them Maú and Catuíra. Old Andaia, after being arrested, had his freedom in regard to their bravery.

History

The history of Barinas Farm begins with the arrival of Mrs. Thereza Tomásia and family in Araxá in 1820, with the letter of Sesmaria da Manioca. In 1950, Alberto Castro Alves (in memorian), began the planting of Coffee, being thus one of the pioneers of the region. With his vision of economist and administrator he created criteria such as diversification, integration, professionalism and strategic partnerships.

The family struggled in 1975 when heavy frost burned the coffee planted, which was not enough for the family to give up its coffee-growing purposes. The passion for coffee made Fazenda Barinas rise and become the model it is today, with the 7th generation at the forefront of business seeing the potential of coffee.
